Socialist Labour congratulates the doctors, members of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), for their steadfastness and tenacity in maintaining their strike for over two months from 2nd August 2021.

The present moment is a very dicey one, characterised by systemic crisis, of such proportions that it seems to have engendered a situation of permanent crises – a crisis of rampant excruciating poverty, a crisis of rampaging endemic insecurity, and a crisis of near catastrophic degradation of human life; all of which pose an existential threat to the working peoples of our part of the world.

Every society is a reflection of the consciousness and dominant ideology of its citizens. It could be consciousness towards religion and spirituality or economic and socio-political well-being. Whichever is dominant and prevalent will be the determinant of the direction of progress for such society. Again; it is also pertinent to acknowledge that the philosophical and ideological current of every period work in tandem to shape the direction of the overall development of societies.

The doctors have vowed to continue their strike on the basis of an appeal and motion for stay of execution of the court ruling directing them to resume work.

The Airforce have finally admitted that they killed 10 innocent civilians on a recent bombing run in Yobe State.
