Folorunsho provides an overview of global economic dictates, especially as they affect employment relations and workers’ rights in Nigeria. She discusses the trade union responses and the influences that challenge these responses. She discusses the features of the work environment and its effect on poverty and in particular on women workers. Data on women leaders in both the Nigerian Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress prior to globalization and presently is considered. Finally the paper looks at strategies that trade unions could adopt to improve their prospects and increase the number of women in trade union activities and leadership positions.
